If your loved one who has passed away has wished for a burial in the sea or lake, we are at your service. Amidst the sorrow, it is comforting to know that the dearly departed’s final journey will be taken care of with respect.
We have several years of experience in Sea Burials on the Finnish Gulf, and offer this service starting in 2025 also at Lake Lohja.
With respect for the departed one’s memory and sharing your sorrow
When sorrow hits you, it is important not to have to feel stress concerning the arrangemenst of a Sea or Lake Burial. Is equally important that the one with the sorrow is met with respect and understanding. Our skipper’s several years of work experience in the congregation have prepared him to meet the departed one’s dearest in a correct way, and handle the final journey for the deceased in a beautiful manner.
In accordance with the departed’s wishes and the near ones’ choices
In its most simple form, a water burial can consist of just spreading the ashes or lowering the urn in the chosen place, with transport back and forth. It is of course the mourners’ choice how this will take place. There are no right or wrong ways, as long as the departed is treated respectfully.
The journey to the burial area will be made gracefully and slowly, if no other wishes have been made. Our skipper is dressed in a dark suit and the Finnish flag waves at the stern of the vessel in a salute for the departed. A flag denoting the departed’s nationality can be added in the mast.
Once arrived to the area of burial, the skipper turns the vessel to ensure that burial will be able to take place in the direction of the wind. When all is set, the engine is shut and the burial procedure can begin. The chauffeur is happy to assist and, if wished, even complete the act of burial in its entity en lieu of the mourners. When everyone feels ready, the journey back to shore can begin.
Lake Burial at Lake Lohja
At Lake Lohja we offer Lake Burials with our vessel m/v Lysti. The total capacity of people accompanying the deceased is 12 passengers (+ crew).
The act of burial can either consist of dispersing of the ashes to the water, or by sinking a suitable urn to the seabed. The burial home will help you to choose the right kind of urn for the occasion.
Lake Burial at Lake Lohja consists of transport from Aurlahti harbour to the burial site on Lake Lohja and back according to a premaditated schedule.
Lake Burial at Lake Lohja starting from 140 € (VAT included)
Please notice that funeral home services are not included in this price. We are of course happy to assist you in finding a suitable service provider. Usually the cost is invoiced from the deceased one’s family, but other payment options are of course subject to agreement.
Sea Burial at Finnish Gulf outside Helsinki
We usually provide Sea Burial at the Finnish Gulf with our boat m/b LauluVene. Her capacity is maximum 5 passengers (+1 crew). By separate agreement, we can also for an additional cost arrange a larger vessel with a maximum capacity of up to 12 passengers.
The ashes can be spread on the sea or in the wind, alternatively an urn can be sunk to the seabed. The funeral home will assist you in finding the right type of urn for the occasion.
Sea Burial service consists of transportation from Merisatama (Café Carousel) in central southern Helsinki to Aabrahaminluoto burial area and back according to agreed schedule.
